Break In The Clouds

Taken at Ayres End near St. Albans in Hertfordshire, circa 1980. We started the three mile walk with a light covering of snow underfoot and heavy cloud overhead. And so it stayed, without a frame of film being exposed, until we were nearing the end. A break in the clouds allowed a shaft of sunlight to move swiftly down the far side of the field towards a lone tree in the hedgerow. I managed to get a shot with my Pentax just before it reached the tree, but there was no time to change the 50mm lens for a longer focal length. The final print was from a small part of the 35mm negative, resulting in a grainy image.
